Apoorva, The Rare School Days Eighteen-year-old Nithin Ramakrishnan may be a novice in film making. But he definitely has a purpose in choosing a school subject for his debut film ‘Apoorva, The Rare School Days.’ A bilingual film in English and Malayalam, it has been directed and scripted by Nithin. A narrationNarrated by a small boy, the story of Apoorva portrays a number of incidents that take place in a public school. Sathya (Sanjeev), Pooja (Helen), Jerin (Ajay Sathya) and Meryl (Preethi) are classmates. Sathya has a special liking for Pooja, which she does not reciprocate. Staying with her grandmother after her father died and her mother eloped with her lover, Pooja is always moody and prefers to be left alone. In the meantime, a new teacher, Lakshmi Devi (Vimala Raman), joins the school. Unlike the other teachers at the school, she is friendly with the students. She gets to know about Pooja’s problems and tries to help her in any way that she can. Things take a tragic turn when Pooja falls down a staircase in the school and suffers serious cornea impairment. Only a surgery can save her eyesight. A worried Sathya sits by her bedside all day long trying to prove his love for her. But she does not respond favourably. A different turnThough her friends manage to get the required money for the surgery, other problems crop up and the film takes a different turn. Except for Kochu Preman as the principal and Tamil comedian Senthil as the security officer, all the other veteran actors including Kalabhavan Mani, Kalpana and Suraj Venjaramoodu appear subdued in their roles. Vidyadharan Master scores music for the lyrics of Pooja Rajhesh and Parvathy Warrier. The singers are P. Jayachandran, Madhu Balakrishnan, Afsal, Manjari and Ajay Sathya. Jithu wields the camera. Apoorva, The Rare School Days has been produced by N. Ramakrishnan for Gowri Creations. G. Jayakumar
