Industrial units to be honoured

CHENNAI: The government has instituted Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2007-08 to honour industrial, service and commercial establishments in private, public and joint sector actively involved in social and economic uplift of the State.

Activities undertaken between April 1, 2002 and March 31, 2007 will be taken into account for 2007-2008 awards that comprise Rs.5 lakh and a certificate.

The awards will be given to five establishments every year from 2007-2008 onwards. Eligible institutions have been asked to submit their applications along with complete details and supporting documents to the Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Saidapet, by October 10.

A press release stated that companies, partnership firms, sole proprietorship firms and government/quasi government undertakings as well as association of industrial, service and commercial establishment could apply for the award.

Establishments operating directly or through trusts, NGOs and other agencies could also apply. However, exclusive trusts, NGOs and clubs were not eligible.

Awards will predominantly be given for good works undertaken in rural development. Commendable works in urban areas, especially in urban slums, would also be considered.

Activities such as promotion of agriculture, animal husbandry, education, health, sanitation, water supply, water harvesting, non-conventional energy, agricultural marketing, self-help groups, youth welfare and sapling plantation will be considered for the award.

Application forms are available with the Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, District Collectors and on the website www.tnrd.gov.in.
