Baby boy found abandoned

Chennai: A baby boy aged about five months, was found abandoned near a park in Pallavan Nagar, Thiruverkadu, on Saturday night.

According to the police, the baby was spotted by some residents, who informed the police. He has been handed over to the Indian Council for Child Welfare at Aminjikarai.

Man found dead

A senior citizen was found dead on Mambakkam Road at Pallikaranai, in the early hours of Sunday.

The police suspect he may have been hit by a speeding vehicle.

According to the Pallikaranai police, Kathirvel (65), a resident of Anna Street in Chitlapakkam, was a daily-wage labourer. His body was found around 4 a.m. by a few passers-by, who informed the police. He is suspected to have died of a head injury, the police added.

The Tambaram traffic investigation police have registered a case of hit-and-run and are investigating.
