Outstanding: Participants at the piano competition held at ITC Hotel The Kakatiya on Sunday. HYDERABAD: The night indeed transcended the barriers of borders, language and race. Who otherwise would have imagined that children with their second names sounding typically Telugu would get top prizes in playing an instrument classically Western? The ‘3rd Twin-Cities Piano Competition’ organised at ITC Hotel The Kakatiya on Sunday by Monica Papp from Hungary saw quite many Telugu children among the winners. Though the upper age limit was eighteen years, all the children who rocked the stage were within 8 to 14 years age bracket. Perhaps it was the reason why there was no preening of ego masqueraded and paraded as modern talent. If anything, it was untainted passion flowing through the nimble finger tips into the piano keys and emanating as pure joy of mellifluous music. Avidant Bhagat, Ankush Rayabari and Pranav Nooti secured the first, second and third prizes respectively in the first category upto Grade 3 while the prizes in the second and higher category went to Anvitha Rayabari, Aneesh Athrey and Anish Raparla. This year, the event had 4-Hands round that saw two persons playing a symphony and the prizes went to the pair of Anvitha and Ankush Rayabari. Janet Hoisington from USA, Jonathan Hewitt from Australia and Monica Papp formed the jury. The contest is hailed as ‘one of its kind in Hyderabad with international standards’.
