Non-cardholders should not buy ration articles

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Food and Civil Supplies Minister E.V. Velu on Sunday said non-cardholders should not buy or stock ration articles.

Reviewing the functioning of the Food Cell CID at the Secretariat, he said that to help the needy, the government had allocated sufficient funds for food subsidy to distribute essential commodities through fair price shops. If the cardholders felt that rice and kerosene were not needed, they should buy only essential articles. The Minister asked the Food Cell CID to expedite the list of seized articles, so that the officials could act immediately.
