THRISSUR: Four new meet records marked the opening day of the 56th State senior aquatics championship at the Aquatics Complex here on Saturday. All the records came in the men’s section and all of them were by the swimmers from the newly inducted Railway Institute.

Anoop Augustine and K. Rajeev sank the existing records in the men’s 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly respectively. Later, in fading light, they were also part of the Railway Institute quartet that broke the record in the men’s 4 x 100m medley relay.

The other record of the day was in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.
