Roddick overcomes Phau

BEIJING: Andy Roddick was forced to dig deep to beat his unfancied opponent in his China Open semifinal on Saturday as women’s top seed Jelena Jankovic continued her march towards the title.

The big-serving American battled to a 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-1 win over 137-ranked Bjorn Phau while Jankovic staved off a spirited fightback from Vera Zvonareva on the women’s side.

Paes-Dlouhy in final

Meanwhile in Bangkok, top seeded Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy stormed into the summit clash of the Thailand Open after inflicting a straight-set defeat on Fabrice Santoro and Jo-Wilfred Tsonga.

Paes-Dlouhy thrashed the unseeded French pair 6-4, 6-2 in the last-four match of the $576,000 hard court event.
