CHENNAI: The ninth edition of the annual “The Hindu-Young World Quiz” contest will be held across the country from October 15 to November 13. Beginning with the regional rounds, the 2008 quiz contest will climax at the grand all-India final to be held in Visakhapatnam on November 13.
The Hindu-NIE initiative, this year’s quiz will be held in 13 centres. The first prize in the national final will earn the winning team Rs.16,000, while the teams that finish second and third will carry home cash prizes of Rs.12,000 and Rs.8,000 respectively. For the regional rounds, the team that comes first will win Rs.8,000, with the second and third getting Rs.6,000 and Rs.4,000. The Hindu’s V.V. Ramanan will once again be the quizmaster. This year’s title sponsor will be Extramarks.com. The associate sponsors are: Pepsico (Cheetos), DC Books, Kissan (Amaze), and Vizag Steel. The following are the national sponsors: Lotte (Caramilk), Encyclopaedia Britannica, Firefox Bikes, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Penguin, GM Pens (Reynolds), and State Bank of Travancore. Dabur (Real) fruit juice is the official beverage, and QUIZwalahs are once again managing the event. Schoolchildren between classes VI and IX are eligible to participate in the event. There will be a written preliminary round at each centre to select six teams for the regional finals, but both of these will be held the same day. The winning team from each region will be eligible to participate in the all-India final. Any two students from classes VI to IX can form a team and each school can send a maximum of three teams using the entry forms to be sent to them. All completed entry forms must reach the regional The Hindu office on or before October 10, 2008. There is no entry fee for the event.
