Congress president will address a public rally in Panipat on October 2. CHANDIGARH: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will launch the “Mahatma Gandhi Grameen Basti Yojana” in Panipat on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti day, by allotting residential plots of 100 square yards each to families belonging to the Scheduled Castes and also those living Below Poverty Line (BPL). Addressing a meeting of Congress workers here, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the UPA Chairperson would also address a public rally in Panipat. He disclosed that out of about 7,000 villages in the State, land had been made available for these plots in 5,000 villages. The Government would soon acquire land in the remaining villages. Mr. Hooda said basic amenities would be provided in the areas where these plots are located. The cost of developing each plot would be Rs.25,000, he added. He asserted that this would be the biggest rally of the Congress in the State before the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and “it would break all previous records”. Mr. Hooda launched a scathing attack on the erstwhile Indian National Lok Dal regime, accusing it of not undertaking any “welfare activities”. Haryana Congress president Phool Chand Mullana said many schemes had been implemented by the present Government for the welfare of all sections of society.
