Plea to make use of old bus stand in Rajapalayam
RAJAPALAYAM: Over 600 persons took part in a hunger strike staged here demanding to fully operationalise the old bus stand.
The Rajapalayam municipal Vice-Chairman, S.A. Manikanda Raja, led the protest in which people belonging to all walks of life participated. Over 300 shops in and around the old bus stand remained closed.
The protestors demanded that all town buses must be operated from the old bus stand and muffosil buses permitted to touch the old bus stand before terminating at the new bus stand.
Mr. Manikandan said that people coming from villages around the town were affected as they had to take two buses to reach the market. Besides, the fare for buses coming from Srivilliputtur side had been increased as the buses had to cover an additional three km to reach the new bus stand. “How can the farmers and small traders bear additional fare for their two way journey?” Mr. Maikandan said. This also affected the students coming to school in the town.
