YSR pulls up police officials

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Expressing displeasure over the laxity of the Hyderabad police in preventing the attack on the corporate office of Lanco by activists of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ordered Police Commissioner B. Prasada Rao to initiate action against the officials concerned.

The Commissioner immediately transferred the Inspector of Banjara Hills police station, E. Shankar Reddy, under whose jurisdiction the Lanco’s office falls. Congress MP from Vijayawada Lagadapati Rajagopal is associated with this company.

Mr. Prasada Rao said the Inspector could have prevented the attack. “His response to the incident was rather late and resulted in law and order problem.” Departmental action would also be initiated against the Sub-Inspector of the sector concerned, Ashok, and Banjara Hills in-charge ACP, J. Subbirami Reddy.

A high-level meeting was convened to review the incident. The DGP, S.S.P. Yadav, also sought details about the attack from the Police Commissioner. A senior officer would inquire into the attack on Lanco office and fix up responsibility over failure of police to prevent it.

Meanwhile, Malakpet Inspector Iqbal Siddiqui was transferred and posted in the place of Mr. Shankar Reddy who has served in Banjara Hills for over three years.
