GUNTUR: Three women were killed on the spot and eight others grievously injured when a lorry collided with an autorickshaw at Thimmapuram on the National Highway No. 5 in Guntur district on Friday. The autorickshaw carrying 11 persons was going to a spinning mill along the NH-5 in the wrong direction when the lorry proceeding from Chillakallu to Krishnapatnam port with a load of cement collided head-on. Eight others including the auto driver were being treated at Guntur Government General Hospital for injuries. The victims were identified as S.A. Rehan, 25, Uppala Eswaramma, 45, and Pathan Noorjahan, 50. Those injured were out of danger, said Nadendla SI G. Lakshmaiah. While the lorry driver is absconding, the police said both the vehicles violated road rules. The lorry should have been coming on the left margin of the road, but was going on extreme right and the auto was coming in the opposite direction (wrong direction) to save distance and time to reach the spinning mill close by.
