Wildlife Week fete from October 2

KOZHIKODE: The Forest Department is organising various programmes as part of the Wildlife Week celebration beginning on October 2.

Forest Minister Benoy Viswom will inaugurate the State-level Wildlife Week celebration at a programme to be held at the Town Hall here on October 2. A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, will preside over the function. Mayor M. Bhaskaran will be the chief guest on the occasion.

V.K. Sreevatsan, Divisional Forest Officer, said in a release here on Thursday that bird watching programmes would be organised in Kadalundi and Kottuli Wetlands at 7 a.m. on October 2.

As many as eight wildlife awareness processions taken out from different centres in the city will congregate at the Mananchira Square.

Prominent personalities, environmental activists, contingents of Scouts and Guides, National Service Scheme volunteers, Youth Club and Vana Samrakshana Samithi members, department officials among others, would participate in the processions.

A public meeting would be held in the Town Hall later. The Mayor would flag off a mass run from the Corporation Stadium in the morning.

R.V. Sajeevan would be felicitated at the inaugural meeting for his contribution in spreading awareness of wildlife.

A skit by students on wildlife, tree-planting in the compound of Government Model Higher Secondary School, photo exhibition, and film show are planned on the day.

On October 2 and 3, painting, quiz, and essay contest would be conducted for school/college students.
