BANGALORE: The sporting action during this Rajyotsava Day, November 1, will be different. And bringing about this change from the mundane is Triple Tree Sports & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, a sports management concern, along with the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and Sports Authority of Karnataka (SAK). The organisers have thought of a unique event — road races to commence simultaneously from five different cities — Bangalore, Shimoga, Chitradurga, Bellary and Hubli-Dharwad. The flag-off will be held at 6.30 a.m. Speaking to the media, Commissioner, DYSS, Shri Amar Kumar Pandey (IPS) said: “The event at five cities will herald a spirit of well being with people from different strata of the society rubbing shoulders in a sporting manner. If this time its five cities, more and more will be added in the following years.” The event is open for Kannadigas and residents of Karnataka only and registration (with a fee of Rs. 250) will be done only with proof of address and photo ID card. The ‘Rajyotsava Ota’ will be in two main categories — Run for Pride and Run for Glory. In the Run for Glory, there are two sections — Gandhada Ota of 10km and Kasturi Ota of 5km and has attractive prize money. The Run for Pride has the Sambhrama Ota and Suvarna Ota of 3km, for senior citizens. Over 1.5 lakh people, both young and old, are expected to participate in the inaugural run this year, which has prize money of over Rs. 30 lakh up for grabs. — Special Correspondent
