ESMA against fertilizer hoarders

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Government has decided to invoke provisions of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against hoarders and others indulging in irregularities thereby obstructing proper supply of fertilizer to farmers in the State.

Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy said that Law Department and legal experts were being consulted on how to go about the implementation of the decision without attracting any litigation. He warned that stringent action would be taken against unscrupulous elements hampering fertilizer by unfair practices. At the same time, he appealed to the farmers to alert the Government machinery if they came across any case of hoarding.

Answering a question, he said preliminary enquiries revealed that the huge stock of fertilizer said to be stocked at godown in Krishna district was being maintained by the Government as a buffer.
