Start: Convener of the State unit of the Youth Congress Akram (centre) launching ‘Aam Aadmi Ka Sipahi’ programme in Chitradurga on Thursday. Chitradurga: The District Youth Congress Committee launched the “Aam Aadmi Ka Sipahi” programme here on Thursday. The programme, said to be the brainchild of the party’s general secretary Rahul Gandhi, is aimed at educating people about the pro-people schemes of the United Progressive Alliance Government and encouraging them to derive benefits of such schemes. Speaking after launching the programme here, convener of the State unit of the Youth Congress Akram said that through the programme the UPA Government wanted to ensure that more people received benefits of the schemes. He said that the committee would form teams of youths who would visit all gram panchayats to identify beneficiaries for various schemes of the Government. He said that the UPA Government had launched the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), loan waiver scheme for farmers and schemes to provide pension to the aged and people with disabilities, among others. “Many people, especially those living in rural areas are not aware of these schemes. If deserving people do not derive benefit of them, then the very purpose of such schemes will fail. Hence it is the duty of all Congress activists to identify beneficiaries for the success of the schemes,” he said. District in-charge convener of the Youth Congress Kotresh and district unit president Tippeswamy were present on the occasion.
