Squint screening
Siloam Thomas Eye Hospital conducted recently a free eye screening camp to detect refractive errors and squint in children aged three and above and teenagers aged up to 16.
About 50 of them were examined by squint and paediatric eye surgeon from Mumbai Mihir Kothari and Devdutt Thomas of Siloam Hospital.
Some of the children underwent squint correction surgery. Explaining the need for the camp, the hospital said that the first three years in the life of a child were crucial for the complete development of vision. And, 83 per cent of normal mental development of a child depended on normal visual acuity. The camp included counselling for parents on vision development in these children. School teachers were educated on detecting visual defects in mentally disabled children. Dr. Kothari delivered an orientation lecture for ophthalmologists on assessing visual defects in children. The emphasis was on detecting these at an early stage for timely and effective treatment.
Scan centre
Hi-tech Scan at Sivanandha Colony in the city, has teamed up with Piramal Diagnostics to open a new scan centre on Bashyakarulu Street at R.S. Puram. The new centre has a high-end whole body magnetic resonance imaging equipment, a multi-slice whole body helical computed tomography scanner, digital x-ray and other imaging and diagnostics facilities.
