Delhi police offer job to Sharma’s wife

NEW DELHI: The Delhi police have offered an appointment on compassionate grounds to the wife of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who died fighting suspected Indian Mujahideen militants at Batla House here this past week.

The Centre has announced a liberalised pension award for the family equal to the last salary drawn by the police officer. The family will also be given an ex-gratia payment of Rs.15 lakh, the death-cum-retirement gratuity equal to 12-month salary amounting to Rs.2.67 lakh and leave encashment of Rs.2.23 lakh.

The brave officer’s family will also be given Rs.3 lakh from the Delhi Police Welfare Scheme, Rs.2 lakh through the UTI scheme for holding salary account, and Rs.3 lakh under the Union government’s scheme for victims of militant act. Besides these, the Delhi government had recently announced an ex-gratia of Rs.11 lakh to Inspector Sharma’s family. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and elderly parents.
