Government plans to accord deemed university status to KITTS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is planning to convert the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) into a national institute and accord deemed university status to it, Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.

Launching a two-year MBA Travel and Tourism course and other academic programmes of KITTS on the Residency premises at Thycaud here on Wednesday, the Minister said KITTS had created an image of excellence at the national level by moulding tourism professionals during the last two decades. It opened a new world of career opportunities in the global tourism industry. The tourism sector needed trained professionals with management expertise. The MBA course being offered by KITTS (affiliated to University of Kerala and approved by AICTE) would bring out new professionals for the industry.

At the function, Mayor C. Jayan Babu launched the interactive web site of the tourism clubs in the State. V. Sivankutty, MLA, released the book on ‘IT and Tourism’ authored by Venugopal, a faculty member of KITTS.
