Rupee falls by 20 paise

MUMBAI: A strong demand for dollar pushed the rupee below the 46-mark on Wednesday before closing at 45.94/95 against the greenback even as the normal function in banks across the country was disrupted due to strike by employees.

Forex dealers said dollar buying by oil refiners to meet their month-end import requirements pushed the domestic currency to a low of 46.11. However, a recovery in equity markets and dollar selling by exporters at the fag end helped the rupee to recover some part of its lost ground and ended at 45.94/95, still down by 20 paise from is previous close. — PTI
