Strike paralyses work in public sector banks

HYDERABAD: Work in public sector banks across the State was paralysed on Wednesday, as more than 75,000 employees and officers in all banks went on a two-day strike in response to a call given by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).

Reports from Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Warangal and other cities indicated that the strike was ‘total’, K. Ramakoteswara Rao, convener, State unit of UFBU told The Hindu.

In Hyderabad, the striking employees staged demonstrations at their respective banks and important branches and later joined a centralised demonstration at SBH, Gunfoundry. Besides, leaders of the constituent organisations of forum, representatives of CITU (S. Veeraiah) and AITUC (P. Chandrasekhar Rao) addressed the gathering. Activists of CITU expressed their solidarity.
