Marathi chair at JNU soon
Parul Sharma
NEW DELHI: With the Maharashtra government sanctioning the requisite amount, Jawaharlal Nehru University here will soon have a Marathi Chair on its campus.
The University has received a communication from the State government sanctioning a one-time grant of Rs.1.5 crore for setting up the Chair. It is only a matter of time before the money will be released to JNU. The Chair will be held by the Centre of Indian Languages at the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies on the campus.“A notification by the Maharashtra government dated August 29, 2008, states that it has sanctioned to give Rs.1.5 crore to set up this chair. It has been issued on the order of Governor. The Director of Higher Education of the State government based in Pune has been asked to release the amount. We received the notification last week,” said R.K. Kale, Dean of School of Life Sciences at JNU. Though a man associated with the Sciences, Professor Kale has been instrumental in setting up of the Marathi Chair owing to his “love for his mother- tongue and deep relationship with the Marathi language .”
