To supply agro equipment to farmers To continue thrust on export markets
CHENNAI: Greaves Cotton, a leading engineering company, inaugurated its new manufacturing facility for agro equipment at Gummidipoondi on the outskirts of Chennai. The company, part of the Thapar group, already has three factories dedicated to the manufacture of concreting and road making equipment for the infrastructure sector. Addressing visiting persons at the facility, P. Sachdev, Managing Director and CEO, said the new manufacturing base would produce petrol/ kerosene engines and other products, which were hitherto produced at the company’s Thoraipakkam facility in Chennai. Mr. Sachdev said the company’s contribution to farm mechanisation dated back to over five decades and the endeavour was to provide the farmer with modern machinery. The plant is equipped with modern CNC machines to give cutting edge quality to various equipment manufactured here. With an annual sale of 90,000 portable agricultural pumpsets, the agro equipment division was commanding a major share of the market in this segment, Mr. Sachdev said. He said plans were under way to further strengthen the rapidly growing business of the agro equipment group with the launch of brush cutters, roto tilling machines, reapers, harvester, rice planter and the like. Greaves would also continue its thrust on export markets such as Africa, SAARC and South East Asian countries.
