Medicos plan stir against bond system

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Medical Post Graduates Association is planning an agitation seeking repeal of the compulsory bond ‘forced’ upon students of government medical colleges.

It noted that the bond system was introduced by the government arguing that a large amount was being spent on the education of medical students by the State.

But the system was not introduced for students of other professional courses, including agriculture, veterinary, law and engineering.

The argument of spending large amount for the education of medical students would not hold good as Rs.200 crore was allocated for engineering education in the last State budget. However, only Rs.147 crore was allocated for medical, pharmacy, nursing and para-medical courses.

The association alleged that the government was crediting the money spent on patient-care, medicine, cotton, other equipment, maintenance expenditure, salary, diet and other expenses in hospitals to the account of medical students.
