TNBA formally takes over the JJ Indoor Stadium

Principal Correspondent

To be used for sports events, particularly basketball

CHENNAI: D. Napolean, the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association, has declared that the body had taken control of the J.J. Indoor Stadium (Kilpauk).

“From this day, we morally, legally and constitutionally take over the Stadium, which was mostly used for purposes other than sports,” Napolean said on Wednesday.

With the stadium under its charge, Napolean promised that the TNBA, under his stewardship, would use it for conducting sports events, particularly basketball. “We have made a new beginning. We hope to give basketball a new direction,” he said.

Charging the old regime under chief patron A.N. Dyaneswaran with misappropriation of funds, Napolean said: “We have asked for all the records to be handed over to us and if we don’t receive them we will take proper action.”

Napolean further mentioned that players, coaches and officials who were either “arbitrarily suspended or banned by Dyaneswaran,” would be given a new lease of life.

The Chennai edition of the basketball pro league would be held in November-December, the TNBA chairman said. He also said further decisions would be made in the Executive Committee meeting and General body meeting to be held on Thursday.
