Davis Cup: India gets first round bye

New Delhi: India has been seeded third in Group I of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone as per the draw announced on Tuesday.

India, which failed to break into the World Group after losing to Romania over the weekend, moved up one place to 23rd in the latest Davis Cup rankings.

They have been given a bye in the first round before taking on the winner of the match between Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan in the second round, scheduled from March 6 to 8 next year.

Group I also has Australia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

The third round ties will be decided later.

Russia, despite its Davis Cup semifinal defeat by Argentina, retained the top spot in the rankings with USA following in second place. — PTI
