Big win for Duleep Cricketers

Bangalore: S. Mahalinga’s unbeaten 98 and N.K. Raju’s five-wicket haul guided Duleep Cricketers to a 162-run victory over Jai Hind CC in a KSCA Group I, fourth division league match here recently.

The scores:

Duleep Cricketers 303 for six in 50 overs (S. Mahalinga 98 n.o., C.V. Jaiprakash 74 n.o., T. Vinay 51) bt Jai Hind 141 in 32.2 overs (Manjunath 46, N.K. Raju five for 33).

ACE Cricketers 259 for nine in 50 overs (Mithun 58, Ajith 49) lost to Jayanagar United Cricketers 262 for six in 47.4 overs (Prasad 66 n.o., Shaibal 40, S. Mithun five for 79).

Star XI Cricketers 47 in 16.3 overs (Suresh Shinde six for 18) lost to Spartons SC 49 for five in 12.1 overs.

MSRIT posts win

M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology defeated BMS College of Engineering by 50 runs in a M.S. Ramaiah memorial inter-engineering collegiate cricket tournament match in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Nishant Hegde scored 85 and shared a 129-run fourth wicket partnership with Tejas Wagle (36). Hegde later claimed three wickets for 36 runs to pave the way for MSRIT’s win.

The scores:

MSRIT 225 for seven in 30 overs (Nishant Hegde 85) bt BMS 175 in 28.4 overs.

MVJ 220 for six in 30 overs (Narendran 81) bt RNSIT 189 in 29.3 overs (Prashanth four for 27).

Brijesh is fastest

Brijesh of JSS College Ooty Road, Mysore, emerged the fastest man of the meet, winning the 100m in 10.98s on the second day of the 80th annual Mysore University inter-collegiate athletic meet at the University Oval grounds in Mysore on Tuesday.

Brijesh also attained the qualifying mark for representing Mysore varsity in the forthcoming all-India meet.

Women: 200m: S. Shobha (Teresian College), 27.49s; 400m hurdles: B.C. Akshatha (Teresian College), 1:30.48s; Javelin: H.P. Pravitha (GFGC, KR Nagar), 32.97m; 5,000m: C. Smitha (Maharaja’s), 20:30.09s; 5-km walk: Revathi (GFGC, Malavalli), 36:59.61s.

Bhushan to meet Sherazi

Amit Bhushan will take on another talented teenager, Mundir Sherazi, for the title in the State junior billiards champion.

At the KSBA here on Tuesday, Bhushan registered a 564-491 win over Mansoor Iqbal, while Sherazi downed Ashish Lunawat 745-491 for their second successive wins in the semifinal league.

On Monday, Amit had thrashed Ashish 628-436, while Mundir outplayed Mansoor 857-399.

The final is slated for Wednesday.

Mundir also did well in the senior billiards (150-up format) with a come from behind win over G. Kishore Kumar.

Vishal, Chetan make the grade

Vishal Bhat and Chetan Meda finished winner and runner-up respectively in the 0-8 handicap section of the intra-club tournament and make the Eagleton Golf team for the Southern Zone final of the McDowell’s Signature Club golf championship to be held in Hyderabad.

While Vishal carded 30 stableford points, Chetan finished with 29 points.

In the 9-16 handicap category Saday Tiwari and Ram Murthy finished with 36 points each. However, Saday emerged winner on a better back nine score.

In the 17-24 handicap category too there was a tie between Pathi Nanjunda and Ranga Swami. Pathi was adjudged winner on a better back nine score.

C.S. Srinivas won the overall straightest drive while closest to the pin effort was won by G.S. Ravi.

Manju nets winner

Pioneer Corps training Centre (PCTC) eked out a solitary goal victory over Central Excise in the first phase of the State super division hockey league fixture at the SAI South Centre ground in Bangalore on Tuesday.

The all important goal came from the stick of N. Manju in the 56th minute.

With this win, PCTC jumped to the second spot with nine points from four outings and have a match against SAI in hand. MEG, KSP and SAI too are in contention and Wednesday’s fixtures should throw up the qualifiers as MEG clashes with KSP and SAI take on CoE.

Punjabi-Mihir pair triumphs

Vijay Punjabi and Mihir won the doubles event of the KSTBA tenpin bowling league in Bangalore after defeating the Sridhar-Rahul Parvez duo by 60 pins.

Meanwhile the Tamil Nadu combine of Rahul Jain and Yusuf secured the third spot, finishing 158 pins behind the leaders.
