CHENNAI: M.A.M. Ramaswamy, MP, was unanimously elected as Chairman and Senior Steward and K. Balarama Das as Deputy Chairman of the Madras Race Club for the year 2008-09. The elections were held at the MRC’s committee meeting on Tuesday. Earlier in the Annual General Meeting, retiring members Mr. Ramaswamy, Mr. Balarama Das, Gnani Laksumanan and R.M. Lakshmanan, were re-elected unanimously as members of the Committee of Management for a period of three years. Following are the other members of the Committee of Management: K. Ganapathy, Md. Javeed Ghatala, A.L. Murugappan, R. Ramakrishnan, P.T. Ram Kumar, M. Roosevelt, M. Vijayakrishna, A. Viswanathan. The Government nominees: Ambuj Sharma, R. Christodas Gandhi, S. Malathi, Rajeev Ranjan (all IAS officers). Following were elected stewards of the Club for the season 2008-09: M.A.M. Ramaswamy (Chairman and Senior Steward), K. Balarama Das (Deputy Chairman), Md. Javeed Ghatala, AL. Murugappan, M. Roosevelt, A. Viswanathan and the Government nominees. Following were elected to the Board of Appeal: R. Ramakrishnan (Chairman); K. Ganapathy, Gnani Laksumanan, R.M. Lakshmanan, P.T. Ram Kumar, M. Vijayakrishna (all Members).
