Skill: S. Nagarajan, Deputy General Manager, Canara Bank, giving away the prize to a winner at the ’Hindi Day Celebrations 2008’ in Tiruchi on Monday. TIRUCHI: Hindi, as a unifying language, has been a mirror of our country’s integrity, and every employee or official of Central government should consider it a rare privilege to serve in a Hindi-speaking belt at least for a short stint to realise this fact, observed the Director (Technical), National Informatics Centre, R. Sivakumar. Speaking at a function to mark the ‘Hindi Day’ celebrations organised by the Canara Bank here on Monday, Mr. Sivakumar said that a basic knowledge in Hindi would facilitate officials from non-Hindi zones posted in northern states, to tide over communication difficulties. The Deputy General Manager of Canara Bank, Tiruchi Circle, S. Nagarajan, who presided, highlighted the Bank’s special incentives for its employees learning Hindi through ‘internal distance education programme’ and also its special training opportunities. The Assistant General Manager, S. Annamalai, the Divisional Managers D. Baskaran and R. Rajasekar, Senior Manager, S. Ramkumar were among those who spoke. Mr. Sivakumar gave away the prizes to the winners. The overall champion prize went to a staff of the Circle Office, V. Subashini, who had won in three events.
