Tait working more on accuracy

Chennai: Shaun Tait is pleased at his bowling so far in the one-day ‘A’ tri-series. “I am working on different aspects of my bowling. I am actually working more on accuracy than speed alone,” said Tait, here on Monday.

The Aussie pace bowler, among the most successful and impressive pacemen in the 2007 World Cup, took a break from cricket last season citing mental and physical exhaustion. “Looking back, I needed the time away from the game. I needed to recharge myself mentally. I needed to spend some time with my family,” said Tait.

He elaborated on the issue of player burn-out. “It has happened to the best of cricketers. There is a point when the pressure gets to you. You need to be honest with yourself, your mates and the team. A period away from the game could be the answer. I felt I was going down after the third Test against India at home last season. I had to make a decision.”

Tait said playing for Australia again was not his immediate priority. “I am still a fair way away from the Australian side. I have to be realistic. I am trying to become a more complete bowler.”

He is looking forward to the two games of the tri-series, including the final, against India ‘A’. “India is one of the toughest places for a paceman to succeed.”— Special Correspondent
