Education a priority for government, says Vasan

CHENNAI: “The Central Government has well recognised the importance of education by increasing the allocation fivefold in the past five years,” Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G.K. Vasan said on Monday.

Participating in the staff day celebration of the University of Madras, he said the allotment for education, which stood at Rs. 7,024 crore during 2003-04, had increased to Rs. 34,000 crore this fiscal. For the 11th Plan, the allotment was Rs. 2,75,000 crore.
