GOOD GESTURE: (From right) Director-General of Police K.P. Jain and City Police Commissioner R. Sekar at the medical camp organised by B-Force in Chennai on Sunday. CHENNAI: Three renovated police booths at important points in the city, including Luz Corner and Anna Nagar were inaugurated on Sunday. These will cater for residents 24x7. In a brief function on Sunday morning, Director-General of Police K.P. Jain re-opened the police booth at Luz Corner which houses a microphone, a wireless system and a computer equipped to monitor CCTV footage from four cameras placed at traffic signals at the junction. Supervised by a Sub-Inspector, two police constables, including a woman police personnel, will remain on duty for 24 hours and will keep an eye on activities and traffic in the area. Mr. Jain also gave away reflector jackets to day and night patrolling units and traffic policemen. He received four exclusive SIM cards given to the police by cellular phone service provider Airtel. The numbers 90031 30102, 90031 30104, 90031 30101 and 90031 30103 are allotted for South, North, Central and Traffic control rooms where residents can call to register their grievances. Commissioner of Police, Chennai City, R Sekar, Addl Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunil Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, South Zone, A M S Gunaseelan and other police officials participated. Two other police booths at Anna Nagar Roundabout and Blue Star were also re-opened on Sunday. Computers distributedEarlier, the DGP inaugurated a computer training programme at the Police Boys Club on Ganapathy Lala Street at Ice House. Over 65 children who are the members of the Boys Club are expected to the benefit from training programme for which a total of five computers were donated by Grundfos India. Mr. Jain on Sunday also inaugurated the first anniversary celebration of B-Force, an NGO providing medical help for police personnel and their family. A master health checkup was conducted for the Armed Reserve Policemen and their families as part of the event.
