CHENNAI: Students of IIT-Madras organised a Golden Jubilee run on Sunday to raise funds for relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by floods in Bihar.
“The IIT campus is a lovely place for a run with amazing surroundings and lots of shade. This run for a good social cause at an institute of excellence in technology is a wonderful experience for all participants,” said Matt Barrett, the winner. “The Indian Institutes of Technology have consistently contributed towards rural transformation in the country. The IITs have changed the lives of many youths and made them entrepreneurs and technocrats. The contribution of IIT to social causes will increase with improvement in technology,” said B. Santhanam, Managing Director, Saint Gobain. “The students of IIT Madras have shown interest both in technology and in charity.” said V.G. Idichandy, Dean of Studies, IIT.
“As part of social service organisations students of IIT also go to rural areas and create awareness on cutting-edge technology and higher education,” he added.
