Vadivelu’s house attacked
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: A group of 25 unidentified men attacked the house and office of Tamil actor Vadivelu in Saligramam Sunday morning. No one was injured in the incident.
The attack assumes significance as a court case involving Vadivelu and a relative of actor and DMDK founder Vijayakant comes up for hearing on Monday.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Vadivelu said the attack took place at 10.35 a.m., as he was preparing to leave for his office. “The attackers threatened me, asking me if I would attend the court hearing on Monday. Therefore, it is clear that the attack has been instigated by Vijayakant,” he said.
Mr. Vijayakant was not available for comment.
Mr. Vadivelu said that the glass façade of the house and his car were damaged in the attack. Mr. Vadivelu and his family escaped unhurt as they remained inside the house at the time of the attack.
The gang threw stones at his office on Vedavalli Street in Saligramam damaging window panes and furniture, he said. Virugambakkam police have registered cases under seven sections following a complaint lodged by the actor. An investigation is under way.
