Chennai: The City-based Vels Group of Institutions has been granted University status by the Ministry of Human Resources Development. The University will be inaugurated by Governor Surjit Singh Barnala on Wednesday on its premises at Pallavaram. Academic year
From academic year 2008-09, six colleges affiliated to Vel’s Group will come under Vels University. The newly formed university will have institutions, including school of maritime studies and school of pharmacy. University Grants Commission secretary R.K.Chauhan and Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, N.Ram are expected to participate in the event, said a press release.
