This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru received a great welcome on his arrival in Paro, Bhutan, on September 21 on a six-day visit at the invitation of the Maharaja of Bhutan. The first leader of a foreign country to visit this remote Himalayan kingdom, Prime Minister Nehru entered the pass amidst colourful traditional pageantry. He was received by the 29-year-old Maharaja His Highness Jigmidorji Wang-chuk, the Maharani Her Highness Kesang Dorji and the Dowager Maharani. The summer capital of Bhutan is Thimphu but Mr. Nehru’s stay was arranged in this town on the bank of the river Paro.
