Gangadhar, Jamuna win

VIJAYAWADA: V. Gangadhar of Krishna defeated C. Upendra of Kurnool 19-21, 21-9, 21-18 in the boys’ final of the AP sub-junior (u-13) badminton championship that concluded at Srikakulam on Saturday.

In the girls’ final, Chittoor’s Jamuna Rani prevailed over Ruthvika of Khammam in 21-14, 17-21, 21-18.

The results (all finals): Boys singles: V. Gangadhar (Kri) bt C. Upendra (Kur) 19-21, 21-9, 21-18; Doubles: V. Gangadhar / Yuva Prudhvi (Kri) bt Sai / Chandrasekhar (Kur) 21-14, 21-14.

Girls singles: Jamuna Rani (Ctr) bt Ruthvika (Khm) 21-14, 17-21, 21-18; Doubles: V. Haritha / Ruthvika (Ctr) bt M. Archana/B. Subhashini (SAAP Academy) 21-13, 21-14.

Jayawardane slams century

Jayawardane’s 117 for South Zone against Central Zone was the highlight of the first’s day play in the ACA inter-zonal u-14 tournament for D. Venkateswara Rao Trophy at Anantapur, according to information reaching here on Saturday.

Both players and administrators paid homage to late R.S. Parthasarathy, former Central Zone secretary, by observing two minutes silence.

The scores: South Zone 341 for six in 90 overs (Jayawardane 117, Vamsi Krishna 73 n.o., C.R. Tejeswar 67, Bhima Rao three for 61) vs. Central Zone 10 for on loss in four overs.

Balasai posts win

Kurnool’s Balasai International School scored a 63-run win over St. Xavier’s High School, Eluru, in the ACA inter-district schools tournament for Dr. Gokaraju Gangaraju Trophy here on Saturday.

The scores: Balasai IS (Kur) 146 in 48.1 overs (J. Prasanth 53, B. Krishnakanth four for 22) bt St. Xavier’s HS (Eluru) 83 in 21.1 overs (Swamy Naik six for 17).

St. Joseph’s EMHS (Atr) 129 in 43.3 overs E. Maruthi three for 23) bt BKSHS (Vzm) 72 in 13.4 overs (K. Sudheer five for 26).

Vivekananda EMS (Ctr) 212 in 43.4 overs (Sk. Zaheer Basha 107, M. Naga Vamsi four for 46) bt LEMS (Gtr) 77 in 30.1 overs (S. Sameer four for 14, K. Rasheed three for 25).

Srikanth sparkles

Ch. Srikanth’s 61 helped Mechanical beat Electrical Traction by 53 runs in the Vijayawada Division inter-department Twenty-20 cricket tournament for DRM Cup here on Saturday. Mechanical and Commercial will be the final on Sunday. The organisers will felicitate veteran cricketer Shaik Mastan Basha.

The scores: Mechanical 171 for five in 20 overs (Ch. Srikanth 61, Samdani 50) bt Electrical Traction 118 for eight in 20 overs (T.S. Srikanth three for eight).

Electrical Maintenance 98 in 17.5 overs (J. Srinivas Reddy three for 15) lost to Commercial 100 for no loss in 15.1 overs (Pavan 56 n.o.).

Selection trials

Krishna District Amateur Athletic Association (KDAAA) will conduct trials to select the district contingent for State meet for the age groups of u-14, 16, 18 and 20 boys and girls at IGMC Stadium on September 22.

The selected athletes will take part in the AP State inter-district junior athletic championship at Brahmananda Reddy Stadium, Guntur, from October 3 to 5.
