Student dies in freak incident on school ground

Correspondent

KATTAPPANA (Kerala): Abhin (12), an eighth standard student of the Muthalakkodam St. George Higher Secondary School, died in a bizarre incident after a javelin thrown by another student pierced his head.

The incident took place on Friday.

The student died on Saturday after a four-hour operation to remove the javelin failed.

According to sources, the incident occurred when Abhin and his friends were walking on the school ground. The failure of those who conducted a hockey game to remove the javelin after they had temporarily used it for another purpose was indirectly responsible for the tragedy.

A hockey game was held at the school ground as part of the Thodupuzha educational district games. The javelin was placed on the ground to reduce the space for the goal post.
