Easy victory for Rigul Rauf

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rigul Rauf trounced Riaj John Joshi 9-1 in the first round to set a trend of one-sided matches in the boys’under-16 section of the G.V. Raja memorial all-Kerala tennis tournament at the TTC courts on Saturday.

The only match that was competitive was between Jairkrishnan R.Nair and S.S.Nikhil in which the former won 9-8 (7-2).

Boys: Under-16 (first round): Rigul Rauf bt Riaj John Joshi 9-1; Vishnu Padmakumar bt Abhijith 9-4; Vikram Ramesh bt Alex Sojan 9-5.

Jaikrishnan R. Nath bt S.S. Nikhil 9-8; Jeffy Jacob bt Siddarth S. Rajeev 9-2; Ananth Mohan bt P.Gautham 9-5; Adithya Nair bt Vaishnav Raj 9-3.

Double for G.V. Raja

G.V. Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram, won titles in both sections for the 11th consecutive year in the Best Schools hockey tournament at Palakkad on Saturday.

G.V. Raja boys trounced Model School, Thiruvananthapuram, 10-1 in the final. Nikhil (2), P.K. Jibin (2), E.J. Arun (2), Joshan (2), P.M. Mahin and Aathil scored for the winner while Rajineesh scored for Model School.

G.V. Raja girls blanked GHS Pathriyad, Thalassery, 4-0 to win the title. Arunima (2), Aishwarya and Surya Lakshmi were the scorers.
