Kongu Engineering College overall champion

Coimbatore: Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, clinched the overall championship for men and women in the Anna University Zone-7 inter-collegiate athletic meet at the Coimbatore Institute of Technology grounds here recently.

R. Navin Kumar (IRTT), S. Raja (SREC) and F. Ismail (PSG Tech) shared the individual championship for men with 16.5 points apiece. R. Kalaimani of Kumaraguru College of Technology (21 points) won the women’s section title.

Volleyball tournament

Bharathiar University inter-collegiate volleyball tournament for men, organised by Park College, Chinnkarai, Tirupur, will be held at its premises from September 22. K. Kamaraj, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Palladam), will inaugurate.

Retains title

At Tiruchi, Jamal Mohammed College defeated St. Joseph’s College 3-0 to retain the title in the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate hockey tournament on Saturday. Nagendran (2) and Manivannan (1) were the scorers.

The results: Final: Jamal Mohammed College 3 (Nagendran 2, Manivannan 1) bt St. Joseph’s College 0.

Third place: TUK Arts College 3 (S. Prabhakaran 2, Nirmal Kumar 1) bt Bishop Heber College 0.

Semifinals: Jamal Mohammed College 6 bt TUK Arts College 0; St. Joseph’s College 4 bt Bishop Heber College 0.

Combined Districts wins

At Chennai, Combined Districts claimed the R.T. Parthasarathy Trophy after defeating City by virtue of the first-innings lead in the under-19 return cricket match.

The scores: Combined Districts XI 389 bt City 260 in 108 overs (S. Karthik 63, I. Shivaram 71, K. Shravan Krishnan 51, R. Aashish Kumar three for 24), by virtue of first-innings lead.
