“Plunging State into darkness is Veeraswami’s achievement”

Staff Reporter

Mettuppalayam: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder leader S. Ramadoss on Saturday said that “plunging the State into darkness” is the achievement of Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami.

He was talking to reporters at Mettuppalayam on his way to Udhagamandalam for participating in the party’s conference to propagate abolition of liquor.

Dr. Ramadoss said Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh was transparent in his statement that it would take six months for the power supply situation to improve, whereas the Electricity Minister was making contradictory statements. The situation faced by the people actually disproved the claims of the Electricity Minister. The scheme for providing rice at Re.1 a kg through the Public Distribution System (PDS) was an attempt to divert the attention of the people from core issues.

He also ridiculed the scheme for providing grocery items at Rs.50 through PDS.

Dr. Ramadoss called for closing down 8,000 Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation-run liquor shops and using them for selling grocery items and essential goods.
