Baalu meets Kyndiah

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, T.R. Baalu, met Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, P.R. Kyndiah, seeking the Centre’s approval to include Kuruman, Kuruman Gounder, Kurumba, Kurumban and Kurumbar in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Tamil Nadu.

The State government had, on February 12 this year, recommended the inclusion of Kurumans in the list of Scheduled Tribes, and requested the Centre to take appropriate steps.

Mr. Baalu urged Mr. Kyndiah to include the tribes in the ST list or at least include the synonymous names as ST under ‘Kuruman’ in Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Vellore and Salem districts of Tamil Nadu in Serial No.18 in the list of STs in Tamil Nadu.
