BIDAR: Security has been provided at Christian prayer halls in the district as a precautionary measure, Superintendent of Police A. Subramanyeswara Rao has said. “We have information of a New Life church functioning in Aurad taluk, and police have provided security there,” Mr. Rao told The Hindu here on Friday. Besides, the police have asked church authorities to inform the police if they are holding mass prayers so that police could provide security to prevent untoward incidents, he said. Mr. Rao said besides providing security to prayer halls, police personnel had been asked to find out details of people living in Old City areas and to keep an eye on people new to the city. The police are visiting all households to gather details. Vice-president of the Bidar City Municipal Council Philoman Raj Prasad condemned the attacks on prayer halls in various parts of the State and said the attackers were jealous of the Christian community which was active in areas such as education and health. Aurad tahsildar Geeta said vigil was being maintained in the district particularly after the attacks on prayer halls came to her notice.
