Noble effort: A student of Sree Cauvery School, Indiranagar, teaching English grammar at a government school. BANGALORE: Students of Classes IX and X of Sree Cauvery School, Indiranagar, took up humanitarian projects as part of a competition recently. A team of 19 students and a few teachers visited orphanages, old age homes and schools for the visually challenged and interacted with the inmates. At a child welfare centre, the students sponsored and served lunch for 65 children. They collected used clothes from their friends and relatives and distributed them at a school for the visually challenged. In an attempt to provide respite to terminally ill cancer patients, students put up a performance and collected funds. They collected food items through an intra-house “akki daan” programme and distributed them to an old age home. The children spent a week at a school for the speech and hearing impaired. At a government school, students taught English grammar and responded to an appeal by the children to conduct physical education classes. At the end of the project, the students made paper bags as an effort towards a plastic-free world. The “Cauverians” were the second runners up in the competition. Each student received a gift coupon of Rs. 250 and a certificate. “They have learnt to make a difference in the lives of the needy,” said Principal Geetha. M. Rao. WinnersFour students of Florence Public School, R.T. Nagar, have done the school proud by winning prizes at a competition organised by a radio station recently. Abrar. K. Syed was adjudged the best comedian and Nikhil Varma the best instrumentalist. Shivika Khanna turned out to be the best radio jockey, while Uzma was chosen the best singer.
