It will be carried on beaches along the coastline It is a part of South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme CHENNAI: The Indian Coast Guard, in association with the National Institute of Ocean Technology, Loyola College and the Tree Foundation, will organise a coastal clean-up day on Saturday. Annual eventThe annual event is part of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP) of the United Nations Environment Programme. The clean up will be undertaken simultaneously at beaches along the Indian coastline. Last year, about 5,000 people participated in the event in Chennai and picked up about 40 to 50 tonnes of litter. Representatives from a number of government agencies, non-governmental organisations, corporate houses, schools and colleges are expected to participate. ParticipantsThe participants will also include the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Department of Environment, NCC, Lions Club, Sri Krishna Sweets, Madras Round Table and the Royal Madras Yacht Club.
