KOCHI: Bangalore’s Uttam Gupta, the Holkar Trophy pairs event winner at the Winter Nationals in Gujarat early this year, and many members of the Indian team which will figure in next month’s first World Mind Sports Games in Beijing will be the stars to watch out for in the 46th South Zone bridge championship which begins at the Regional Sports Centre, Kadavanthra, on Friday. Over a hundred players from the five Southern States will figure in the three-day championship which is being held in Kerala for the fifth time. “Vinoth Kumar, Guthi Raja Sekhar, Sherien Ryan and Lakshmi Chari will be some of the players who will play in Beijing event. They will all be here,” said Robins Jacob, the championship convener and joint secretary of the Bridge Federation of India. Tamil Nadu’s T.R. Krishnan and the BFI President Kamalakara Rao are the other prominent names who will be seen in action. Competitions will be held in the team of four duplicate, team of four progressive, master pairs, mixed pairs and individual events. — Principal Correspondent
