CHENNAI: The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has urged the State government to form a single window clearance mechanism for smooth and timely implementation of City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks without any cost overrun. Board chairman L. Mansingh met Chief Secretary K.S. Sripathi at the Secretariat on Thursday. It was time for Tamil Nadu to get pipeline gas, but before that infrastructure had to be in place, he said. Reliance Industries is the only company to have evinced interest in setting up networks in Chennai and five other cities. However, it will take more than three years for Chennai to get it. Addressing the round table on ‘City or Local Natural Gas Distribution Networks-Authorisation’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr. Mansingh said: “Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat have set up a single window clearance system to ensure speedy implementation of the projects. They are being monitored, and there is no scope for complaints. We will ask the Tamil Nadu government to facilitate transport infrastructure.” He said that so far 73 expression of interest had been received to make natural gas available to the public. Reliance Industries has expressed interest in putting up the network in the Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Tuticorin and Tiruchi regions.
