VISAKHAPATNAM: S.V. Abhishek of Visakhapatnam has been named in the Indian team to play in the junior Davis Cup World finals in Mexico from September 22.

Abhishek is currently No. 2 in the AITA under-16 rankings. He was a member of the Indian team that won the Asia-Oceania Zone junior Davis Cup in Delhi in April.

Yuki Bhambri of Delhi, who is India No. 1 in under-16 rankings and Saurabh Singh of Delhi (No. 5) were the other members of the team.

After the Delhi triumph, Abhishek went on to play in the ITF under-18 tournaments abroad to get better exposure and his performance at the two tournaments held in Islamabad in August was impressive.

He made the final of one of the tournament and went down to a Chinese player 4-6, 5-7 in the final, but won the doubles title in both tournaments. Vaidik Munshaw of Gujarat was his doubles partner.

Earlier he played in the ITF junior tournaments in Jakarta and Bangkok in July. — Special Correspondent
