PCTC stuns KSP

BANGALORE: Pioneer Corps Training Centre (PCTC) stunned Karnataka State Police (KSP) for an odd goal in three win in the Karnataka State Super Division hockey league championship which got underway at the SAI Couth Centre turf here on Wednesday,

Central Excise meanwhile defeated Centre of Excellence (CoE) 3-1.

Two teams from the first phase, amongst the six in fray here, will advance to the second phase and join Army Red, ASC, BPCL, IOCL, Namdhari, Canara Bank, Army Green and Fortis.

The venue for the next phase is still undecided. It may either continue at the same venue or be shifted to Madikeri (Kodagu District).

Manju struck for PCTC in the 11th while Mahesh equalised for KSP. In the 56th minute Cyprian Aind netted the winner.

In the other match of the day, Krishna Kishore put CoE in the lead with a third minute goal. However, goals from Bikrampal Singh (5th), Mandanna (38th) and Anup Anthony (43rd) ensured full points for the Excisemen.

Double for Hubli

Hubli Workshop won both the snooker and billiards team championships in the first Railway inter-Divisional snooker and billiards championship, organised by the SWR Sports Association, in Hubli.

In the finals on Tuesday, Hubli Workshop defeated Hubli Division 5-0 and 3-2 respectively.

Narayan Naidu of SWR Headquarters won the individual billiards title by defeating Y. Srinivas Narayan of Hubli Workshop, while the individual snooker championship was won by Mohammed Iqbal Shaik of Hubli Workshop, who defeated Narayan.

Big win for MSRIT

V.N. Ronik’s 69 and Nishanth Hegde’s 67 set the base for host MSRIT’s 122-run victory over SEA CET in a M.S. Ramaiah Memorial inter-engineering colleges tournament match here on Wednesday.

The scores: MSRIT 237 for six in 30 overs (V.N. Ronik 69, Nishanth Hegde 67) bt SEA CET 115 in 27 overs (Tejas Wagle four for 22).

MVIT 127 in 29.2 overs lost to RVCE 129 for eight in 27.1 overs (Abhay Patel 51).

SBMJCE 154 in 29.3 overs lost to BMSCE 156 for two in 17.2 overs (R. Manish 68, Avik 45).

Narrow win for Raichur

C. Hanumanth’s 53 helped Raichur register a one-wicket victory over Tumkur in a KSCA under-19 inter-zonal tournament match here on Wednesday.

The scores:

Tumkur 194 in 45.4 overs (Abhilash Mahandekar 62) lost to Raichur 195 for nine in 49.1 overs (C. Hanumanth 53, M.K. Girish six for 53).

Dharwad 170 in 43.4 overs bt Shimoga 158 in 48.1 overs (B.R. Karthik 49).

Mysore 156 in 41.5 overs (J. Yogesh 58) bt Mangalore 107 in 36.2 overs (Nishith Raj 46).

Handball championship

The State handball championship scheduled to commence at Sagar in Shimoga District on Friday has been postponed due to incessant rains. The tournament will be held at the same venue from October 17 to 19.
