DERA ISMAIL KHAN (Pakistan): A suspected U.S. missile strike hit a compound used by militants near the Afghan border on Wednesday, killing at least six people, said Pakistani intelligence officials. Two intelligence officials said several missiles hit a compound in the South Waziristan tribal region early Wednesday evening. The target was a base used by Taliban militants and Hezb-i-Islami, another group operational in Afghanistan, said the officials. They said informants reported that six people were dead and three injured. Their identities were not immediately clear. The officials said a drone of the type used by the U.S. in Afghanistan was heard in the area shortly before the attack. — AP
